The visits were arranged to encourage those working on-site ahead of the holiday and to directly check on the difficulties faced by vulnerable groups and small business owners. Over the course of the day, Mayor Kim Chan-jin toured fire, welfare and commercial sites, encouraging workers, extending holiday greetings to residents using welfare facilities, and listening to the concerns of local merchants.
Kim’s first stop was the 119 Rescue Squad at Jemulpo Fire Station. There, he met with rescue workers who remain on duty during the holiday to protect residents’ safety and lives, and expressed his appreciation for their efforts.
He then toured the Sinheung Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled, the Sinheung Sheltered Workshop for the Disabled, and Taeyang Daycare Center in succession, holding meetings with staff at the social welfare facilities.
Kim visited a household in need of housing environment improvements and personally took part in a home-cleaning volunteer activity. He then moved on to Seongmigael Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, where he extended holiday greetings to senior citizens using the free meal service and helped serve a special holiday meal.
For his final stop, Kim visited a cafe that accepts the Jemulpo-e-eum local currency card, personally purchasing items with his own Jemulpo-e-eum card and speaking with merchants.
Mayor Kim Chan-jin said, “I am grateful for the dedication of the firefighters who quietly carry out their duties even during the holiday, the welfare workers who look after their neighbors, and the small business owners who sustain our local commercial districts.” He added, “We will continue to listen closely to voices on the ground so that all district residents can enjoy an abundant and warm Chuseok.”
