Juan 6-dong Marks Start of Summer with Donation of 100 Samgyetang Packs from Dongin Church

100 packs to go to elderly living alone and vulnerable residents; church also offers free water, canned coffee amid heat wave

The Juan 6-dong Community Service Center (Chief Kim Seon-suk) in Michuhol-gu District announced on the 13th that it received a donation of 100 packs of samgyetang, or ginseng chicken soup, from Dongin Church (Rev. Kim Deok-jong) ahead of chobok, the first of the year’s three traditional “dog days” of summer.

The donation was arranged to help elderly residents living alone and other vulnerable groups get through the summer in good health. The samgyetang packs will be distributed to 100 such residents in the district.

Dongin Church has continued its samgyetang donation drive for four consecutive years as part of its community outreach. Held annually around chobok, the donation has become one of the district’s representative recurring charitable programs.

The church has also set up a refrigerator in front of its building to offer free cold water and canned coffee to residents and outdoor workers exhausted by the summer heat.

“We prepared the samgyetang hoping that our neighbors in need can stay healthy through the sweltering summer,” said Rev. Kim Deok-jong. “We will continue to carry out charitable work together with the community.”

A district official said, “We are grateful to Dongin Church for continuing its samgyetang donation for four years and for its thoughtful care of residents struggling with the heat wave. We will make sure the donated samgyetang reaches vulnerable residents in a meaningful way.”

Regular donations from religious institutions like this have become one pillar of summer care for vulnerable residents. As heat waves grow longer each year, such sustained private-sector support is helping fill gaps that municipal administration alone cannot cover.
