Michuhol-gu District (Mayor Kim Jeong-sik) in Incheon has established the public Kkumdaon Daycare Center within the Juan Central Paragon Apartments complex and held an opening ceremony on the 13th. The facility repurposes a childcare space inside an apartment complex as a public childcare facility, allowing residents of the complex and nearby households to use public childcare services close to home.

About 50 people attended the opening ceremony, including Mayor Kim, city and district council members, daycare center officials and parent representatives. Attendees celebrated the launch of the new daycare center together.
Kkumdaon Daycare Center was created under the district’s project to expand public daycare centers. The project aims to build an environment conducive to having and raising children and to improve the quality of public childcare services. The opening is part of this policy to strengthen public childcare.
The daycare center has a total floor area of 444㎡ and a capacity of 50 infants and toddlers. The new public daycare center is expected to give families in the complex and surrounding areas more options when seeking public childcare facilities.

The district said the opening is significant in that it uses a childcare facility within an apartment complex to meet local childcare demand and expands the foundation for public childcare. With a public childcare facility located within a residential area, the burden on parents of dropping off and picking up their children is also expected to ease.
“I hope Kkumdaon Daycare Center will be a happy space where children can freely nurture their dreams, and a reliable childcare space parents can trust with their children,” Mayor Kim said. “We will continue to do our best to expand public daycare centers and improve the childcare environment to make Michuhol-gu a great place to raise children.”
Michuhol-gu is pursuing the expansion of a total of four public daycare centers this year. The opening of Kkumdaon Daycare Center is part of that effort, and attention is on what results the district’s policy of expanding the local public childcare base will produce.
