Residents took to the streets to improve their neighborhood, personally clearing an alley where trash had piled up. On the 2nd, the Culture Promotion Subcommittee of the Dohwa 1-dong Residents’ Council (Chair Jeong Gwang-se) in Michuhol-gu conducted a cleanup at an illegal dumping hotspot around the Jemulpo Trading Complex near Dohwa Station as part of its ‘Sprucing Up Our Neighborhood’ project.

The ‘Sprucing Up Our Neighborhood’ project is a resident-participation initiative in which residents tend to their living environment themselves and improve vulnerable areas prone to illegal dumping to create a pleasant community.

A total of 15 people took part in this activity, including seven subcommittee members and relevant officials from the dong administrative welfare center. Participants helped create a pleasant living environment by collecting household waste that had been left around the Jemulpo Trading Complex and pulling weeds along roadsides and alleys. In particular, they focused their efforts on alleys with heavy pedestrian traffic and vulnerable areas where illegal dumping is repeated.

An official from the Culture Promotion Subcommittee of the Dohwa 1-dong Residents’ Council said, “We will continue to carry out cleanup activities so that residents can live in a pleasant environment,” adding, “We ask residents to join us in disposing of trash properly and building a clean neighborhood.”

A dong official said, “We expect that this activity, carried out by residents and the administration together, will help improve the local environment and strengthen a sense of community,” adding, “We will continue to cooperate with the Residents’ Council to make Dohwa 1-dong a clean and livable place.”
